Sales Roles We Recruit For

Sales Management Recruitment

Find the Leaders Who Build Winning Teams

Recruiting a sales manager is a different proposition to recruiting a salesperson. The competencies are different — the ability to coach, hold people accountable, make strategic decisions, and retain a team under pressure are not the same as the ability to close a sale. A great individual salesperson will not always make a great sales manager. We know the difference.

Citrus Connect has placed sales team leaders, area managers, regional managers, and national sales directors. We understand what good sales leadership looks like at every level.

How We Screen Sales Management Candidates

Beyond a track record in sales, we assess management candidates specifically on:

  • Coaching approach — how do they develop people who are underperforming?
  • Accountability — how do they hold the team to targets without damaging culture?
  • Retention record — what is their typical team turnover, and why?
  • Commercial awareness — can they read a P&L and manage a headcount budget?
  • Hiring instinct — have they recruited their own team before, and how did it go?

We verify claims. We take references on management competencies specifically, not just personal sales performance.

Sales Management Recruitment FAQ

How long does it take to recruit a sales manager?

Expect 4–8 weeks from brief to start date for most sales management roles. Senior or director-level appointments may take longer due to longer notice periods. We will give you a realistic timeline at the outset.

Should I promote internally or recruit externally for a sales management role?

Both approaches have merit and the right answer depends on what you already have in your team. We are happy to discuss the tradeoffs on the call — and sometimes the answer is both, hiring externally while also developing an internal candidate.
